I have1989 Honda Accord Lx automatic with cruise control. It idles too high. When it is on Parking or Neutral the rpm is 2500 and above. However when it is on Drive the rpm goes down to 1600. What should I do?
A: replace choke
Q: Where is the radiator drain plug on a 1989 Honda Accord. Want to drain out the water and replace with coolant?
Also, how complex is this to do? Is it just draining and then refilling? I know there is also a part in there for releasing the air.
A: Not sure about Honda's specifically. But every car I've had in my 25 years of car ownership, there usually on the driver side at the very bottom of the radiator. It looks like wing nut in a way. You just turn it counter clockwise ( I believe) but I seem to recall one of my cars being opposite (Clockwise to loosen). So be careful not to force it in the wrong direction or it will strip pretty easy. You should be able to turn it with your fingers, but might possible need a tool like some pliers to get it going.
Q: Have a 1989 honda accord, the fan on heater and radio sometimes go off, turn off key then on again they work??
is it in ignition or what?
A: You have a short somewhere coming off of your ignition.

It steers excellent. Ive went through three hoses. It keeps on leaking two feet past the pump(high pressure line)
Do I need to adjust the power steering rack guide screw or is it the relief valve in the pump that needs fixed.
The car sounds and steers great but when i turn the wheel fluid shots out
The hose isent hitting anything
A: Relief valve in the pump.
Q: What do I have to disconnect/take off to change my cv boot on my 1989 Honda Accord LXI?
I need to change my right side cv boot and I wanted to know what it entails? Do I just have to remove the wheel, or do I have to dismantle the control arms and sway bar, remove the rotor and brake caliper, and more things I have never done before and probably dont have tools for? If someone has done this job before or knows the answer, your advidce would be greatly appreciated.
A: I own a repair shop,,and have done this job a lot,,it is not a hard job to do,,but if you have never done it before,,you would be better off having it done,,because as far as tools go,,you need a good assortment of tools,,also a good work area to do it in,,also you spoke of just replacing the boot only,,i really don't recommend this ,,because in my past experience i have done this a few times at the customers request,,and i always have to go back and replace the whole axle,,later on,,sometimes as quick as a week or two,,the reason for this is that once the boot bust open it lets all the grease come out of it,,and it also picks up dirt ,,and debris,,from driving it,,you may think that you got it clean enough to re-use but the damage is usually done to it,,if you do use the same joint and axle,,it may make a popping noise on you,,the best idea is to get a replacement axle,,from a parts store like advance,,or auto zone,,and it will come with a lifetime warranty on it,this way you don't waste any money,,believe me this is a lesson you don't want to learn the hard way,,i have been at this for 35 yrs,,and i have learned the hard way a few times,,i hope this help,s.

Q: How much would you pay for a 1989 honda accord?
-needs brakes on right side of the car
- needs new dampers
A: At the LX trim level with an arbitrary 230,000 miles, it would retail for about $2,700 if it's in excellent condition. Considering the degree of repairs you've mentioned and the fact that rarely will you find a 19 year old car in even average condition, I wouldn't expect to pay more than $1000, tops.

Q: 1989 Honda Accord LX During winter get the car started and then it dies Engine turns Tried JmpStrt nothing hlp
1989 Honda Accord LX. 141k. During the winter I can get the car started and then suddenly it stops and dies. Whenever I try again, the Engine turns but that's all. Tried Jump Starting...didn't work. Only when it becomes warm again, or atleast 12+ hour later I tried jump-starting it again and it got started (that was only once). Whenever I take it to the garage, they just charge the battery and it gets started....they say there is no problem with the battery....I think they have no idea 'bout the real problem. Help!
before the problem araises (when it first gets started)....it dies as if it just lost its breath.....it suddenly stops. Next 1/2 times, it feels like its gonna start, but never helps.....after that, the engine turns but no sign of life.
A: Check to see if it has spark if not Hondas are known for having bad distributors. We have replaced many, used seems to be the best due to cost. Used run 100-150 rebuilt 400+ Confirm your findings this with a reputable mechanic.
