Q: 1989 Honda CRX-hf starts sometimes-not others?
> About 2.5 years ago developed a starting problem. When the engine warning light came on and stayed on-the engine would turn over strongly but not even think of starting. If I went away for 30-40 minutes-the problem was gone-usually. Turn on and off electrical components, shift the transmission---sometimes it would start without waiting. Do a push start/coast downhill-and usually it would either start or the next key turn would start it---the engine warning light would not stay on. But, if this did not work-try it again a bit stronger/faster. More like thumping a 1950's tv for good reception that a true push start. Since the problem started the ignition and starter have been replaced with no solution. The first time the car was towed to a garage-by time it got there and was examined the problem was gone---so, I started parking at the garage until it wouldn't start there---they found that the gas pump wasn't pumping gas when the problem was manifesting. They > replaced the relay that starts the fuel pump when the engine is started---but, even that wasn't the problem!!!!!! > > Any ideas?????

A: You need to change mechanics because the symptoms you describe is common on the Acura, Civic, and CRX and the cause of the problem is well known... a faulty EFI main relay, although a loose or corroded ground where the ECU ground wires are connected near the thermostat housing on the CRX will also mimic the same symptoms as a faulty EFI main relay. The problem with that EFI main relay is that the soldered joints on its printed circuit board breaks down with age and vibration and hairline cracks form at the soldered joints which causes intermittent failures. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can remove the EFI main relay and remove its cover and touch up those soldered joints to fix it but the easier fix is to just replace it. I said "easier fix" rather than easy fix because replacing it is not so easy due to its location, and especially the 1988-1991 Civic and CRX which has the toughest EFI main relay mounting bracket bolt to get to. Here is a photo showing its location (you will need to remove the driver side knee panel under the steering column to see it from this angle): http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/mainrelaylocation/main_relay-88-91-civic.jpg It may be black or gray but it looks like this: http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/getimage.php?imagekey=PNOE39400SH3003&imageurl=http%3A//67.129.153.73/CGv2Production/Pictures/Honda%2520J-Pegs%255C39400SH3003.jpg But do yourself a huge favor. As I stated above ("a loose or corroded ground where the ECU ground wires are connected near the thermostat housing on the CRX will also mimic the same symptoms as a faulty EFI main relay"), check those ECU ground wires connected by the thermostat housing on your Honda CRX HF. You may get lucky and find the cause of the symptoms there and not have to go through 30 minutes of torment removing that EFI main relay.

Q: can ac be added to 1989 honda civic crx si that had none originally?

A: I agree with Ken...the cost of after market A/C will exceed the value of your 89 Honda. In 1987, I installed after market A/C in my 86 Civic and after a few bugs were ironed out (initially it idled terribly, but we fixed it), it worked well enough, but even in 1987, I paid $1250.00. Look for a different Honda with factory air and sell yours up north, where A/C doesn't matter quite as much as it does in the southern states.

Q: My husband needs help with he's honda crx si 1989?
right now its hes project car and yeasturday he bought new shoes for the rear 2 tires and now they dont fit inside the drum right it dosent pop in place...what can he do any manuels or dirrections on how to replace them so they all fit..

A: He needs to adjust the star adjuster so that the shoes are all the way in. The drums should fit over the shoes after he has adjusted them all the way in. With the drums off it is fairly easy to turn the star adjuster and get the shoes back in. You just need to hold the small piece of metal out of the way which acts as a stop. Normally the adjuster will old move OUT...this is why drum brakes are auto adjusting. When you hold the small stop out of the way you can screw the adjuster in backwards, pull the shoes in and make clearance. You are having the problem because the new shoes are thicker than the old ones which were worn.

Q: 1989 CRX window vent visor?
I'm looking to put a window vent visor on my 1989 Honda crx dx. The window vent visor is the thing that blocks the rain from coming into the car when you're window is slightly open. I'm having a hard time looking for one for the model of my car. I've heard that the #92033 and #92740 vent visors go great with crx's. But which one is best for my car? Thanks.

A: i think 88-89 90-91 window sizes are different... so get one for your year.

Q: Honda CRX valve job?
My 1989 Honda CRX Si runs so rough on cold mornings that I have to wait about four minutes in order to drive it. After that--smooth as a top! It has 125,000 miles. I was told this sounds like a classic case of a $1500 valve job. Any thoughts?
