Q: Can I take a Honda Element from California to Canada when I move?
I am moving from California to Canada and wanting to buy a Honda element before the move. Can I take it with me over the boarder and register it in canada? My dad seems to think that there will be issues with the smog and environmental laws, since he thinks that they differ from the US to canada. Any ideas where I can get information on this? Thanks in Advance!!
A: Honda Elements are built in North America...Marysville, OH to be precise. Check the Canadian owners threads on the forum at http://www.elementownersclub.com If you don't find what you're looking for post this question there. The EOC is a very active and helpful site with tons of information from enthusiastic owners.
Q: How do I fix a 2003 honda element brake system that has been contaminated with power steering fluid?
I got power steering fluid into my master cylinder by mistake. I broke down on the road by having the brakes cease up on me. I had it towed to big o tires and was told that the system has been contaminted with an oil product (power steering fluid I think). I need to fix this and think I can replace the components myself. but don't know what to do about the aBs module replacedment and scan tool part?
A: How much power steering fluid did you get in there? it can't be much.
the only way to do it right is to flush out the brake fluid.
start by using a turkey baster or a syphon to remove all of the fluid from the master cylidner.
then start the flush; you can do that by opening the bleeder valve on the far right wheel then put a hose over the bleeder and pump the brake pedal to get all of the fluid out of that line. then go to the left rear and do the same thing. then the right front and then the left front. keep adding new brake fluid to the master cylinder to replace the fluid that comes out.
do that about 3 times and you should get all of the contaminated fluid out of the system,
i can't quite understand how the contaminated fluid would cause the brakes to lock. I could see it causing the pedal to fade or drop when hot but power steering fluid is a hydraulic fluid and even though its a different base (petroleum v. mineral oil) I don't see how it would cause the system to lock.
I don't think the ABS is a separate issue. I imagine you could open a line on the ABS and pump the brake pedal to try to get the fluid out of there as well.
as for the seizing, find out what seized and go from there. the front brakes have calipers that can be rebuilt; rear brakes are usually disc as well.
Q: What do you guys think of the Honda Element and the Saturn VUE?
What are the pros and cons of each one? Please be very honest and dont give one word answers.
Thanks!
A: Interesting fact about the VUE. I am a big fan of Saturn and am driving one presently, but a mechanic friend of mine suggested that I should look at the maintenance schedule for the VUE as compared to other SUVs. It is apparently in the shop for scheduled maintenance more often than any other vehicle....every 3000 miles according to the manual whereas most are 5000 miles.
If you are asking about the "looks" of the vehicle, I really don't like the Element. It is too boxy for my taste. But it is not my opinion that matters on that...that is up to you.
Q: What are the largest tires you can safely install on a Honda Element?
Does anyone have any pictures of them?
A: i would say a 70 if you have 16inch wheels i would say your tires you have now are a 205/65/16 sound right? i guess a 225/70 or a 75 16 would fit but you dont want your tires to hit the body of the car i had it happen to a buddy of mine that tryed to put 15 inch wheels on a lancer and got 205/65/15's to go in his new wheels
Q: why does the honda element sc only have 166 hp when the accord has 190 hp with the same engine? Just curious?
I am just curious. They both have the 2.4L DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC engine, yet one is rated at 190 (the Accord) and one at 166 (Element SC). Is Honda gonna change this? I would love to see a 190 hp Element SC. I would buy it in a heartbeat, I still would buy now with only 166 but.....
A: Marketing depts are the "wise" culprits when it comes to gutless wonders. Corporate management believes marketing knows best.
Q: What are the good and bad features that a Honda Element has?
Is anyone selling a 2005-2007 Honda Element for $10,000 to $14,000 with 20,000 to 30,000 miles?
Is anyone selling a 2004-2008 Honda Element for $10,000 to 15,000 with 20,000 to 30,000 miles?
A: I can only think of 1 negative - it's a really ugly vehicle.
Q: I can't chose between the Honda Element and the FJ Cruiser?
I'm looking for a dedicated outdoors vehicle for bikes, surf, camping, occasional off roading and some general driving. I hate buying cars in the first model year, and I don't like the horrible MPG of the FJ. However, I am not sold on the Element's quirky styling and the econo-box rep of Honda (cheap materials, feel). Even worse, none come with GPS.satellite nav.
I omitted the Xterra because it has the worst fuel economy of the lot, and it looks rather unoriginal.
Everytime I'm in a low end Honda (civic, crv) it feels and sounds hollow and plastic-y (if that's a word).
A: They are fundimentally different vehicles. the FJ is a truck with extra seats where the Honda is a car with big tires. The FJ cruiser is much more vehicle for the $. It shares most of it's drivetrain with the $55k gx470 lexus. It's got a great torqie v6 and will be MUCH MUCH better offroad than the Honda. In fact the fjcruiser would likely be better in 2wd than the Element in 4wd. (especially with a rear locker engaged which would have to be modified to bypass the computer to work in 2wd.)
The Element is based primarily off the civic and will not withstand much offroading. It's certainly a good reliable vehicle and would be the better choice for mostly highway miles.
It really is a comparison between a truck and a car. If your looking for a car with big tires that gets better mileage than the element check out a new rav4.
Depends on which you need.
Q: Why do so many old women drive the Honda Element?
I mean why do so many old women buy this car? It makes me feel uncool in mine.
Yes I know that but from where I live, (OH) every element driver you see are old women......Even in my school... my teacher! my teacher my english teacher bought an Element!...blah!
A: haha....I have one too and I think it is the best vehicle I have ever owned.
I just read the below article a couple months ago and found out the average age of someone that owns one is 41.
They are coming out with a sportier version (SC) in 2007.
I have seen some editorials from older people that drive it, and most of them say they like it because it gives them the feel of a luxury car (wide open cabin) and it is so easy to get in and out of.
Q: I currently have a sturdy 2004 Honda Element. I want to get a new Dodge Charger. Is this a good idea?
Most of my friends do not think its a good idea. The price difference is negligible. Most say the Honda will give me less trouble in the long run. Others say Dodge is a poor quality car. This is from people who fix cars and work in dealerships.
A: Honda is a good quality automobile, dodge?
You are going to loose fuel mileage going from Honda to Dodge.(BIG TIME!)
Think down the road, the resale of the Honda is going to be a lot better than the Dodge.
If the Dodge dealers are the ones telling you not to do the trade then what does that tell you!
Your friends are pretty smart! I went from a Honda to a Chrysler and I regret it!!!!
Keep the Honda.(even though I think the element is not very pleasing to the eye!)
Q: I have a Honda Element and after driving it for a few mintures it bogs out and will not go past 3 rpms?
Its not the transmission, it did this before and the idle cord was off the track, this time its not. It started happening after i got a new lock chamber
A: Probably a transmission problem or catalytic converter clogged, there should be a check engine light on, have it scanned.
Q: I am looking at buying either a Honda Element EX AWD or a Toyota RAV4 4wd Sport 4 cyl, any help?
I would like advise from people who currently own one of the two or someone who would have in depth knowledge of the two so I can decide which one is overall a better vehicle.
A: I love my 2005 Toyota RAV4! I bought it two years ago with 13,000 miles on it and now I have 46,000 miles on it. I've had ZERO problems with it. I love the size and the look. The seats fold down in the back for when you need to carry extra cargo. All in all a great vehicle.
Q: Why is the oil pan on my Honda Element made so all the dirty oil can't drain when the plug is removed?
I fabricated a bent tube to siphon the oil left after a normal drain and found it equaled around half a quart. It doesn't seem this can be good for my engine or is there a reason for this I don't understand and I'm realy hurting my engine by removing all the dirty oil at oil change?
A: you arent hurting a thing by taking all the oil out. it is just the way it is designed. one engineer designed the engine while another did the car. they didnt know exactly what the other was thinking they just had specs th go by.
Q: Can the Honda Element SC instead of the EX be modified into a handicap accessible vehicle?
If you can't please explain why. Also please explain the difference between the EX and the SC...THX
A: The EX and the SC are basically the same vehicle except for variations in trim and details. Nothing that would prevent a handicap access conversion. You'll find some information about Element conversions at http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/search.php?searchid=2703333 The EOC is a great site for anything you want to know about the Element.
Q: How do I install a Sirius radio behind the dash on a Honda Element? Thanks?
I would like to do the wire connections behind the dash so they are not showing. If possible I would like to hook up the aux also behind the dash.
What do I need and how do I start this project?
Thanks so much

Q: I'm buying a new Honda Element, but will be painting it white, what would be the easiest color to repaint ?
A: You can't order an Element in white and The Element that looked like it was white was actually "khaki", a very light tan. I think it was only available for the 2006 model year. Your best bet would probably be silver...or some other make that is available in white.
