Q: Honda 2002 Odyssey transmission problem?
Just recently on our Odyssey a problem has started occuring. When accelerating the transmission will not shift from 1st to 2nd gear, right now its only occasional, once a week maybe. Is this some sort of sensor or low fluid problem or a big time transmission problem?

A: You need to have your car inspected by your local dealer. Your vehicle falls under Safety Recall 04-021 Automatic transmission 2nd gear inspection. It applies to all 2002-2003 Odysseys. This is very likely the source of your problem due it being intermittent as it can very due to Temperature. According to the bulletin it is possible that in an extreme case that the A/T can "become locked without warning. A locked A/T can result in a crash." Now this of course may not be the problem after all but I would have the dealer perform the recall regardless which would be free of charge. I do suspect you will require transmission replacement under this Bulletin based on your statement. That would also be free of charge

Q: What temperature air should my car's air conditioner be putting out at the vents, on MAX @ full blast?
At the moment it is 41F, is this fine? 2002 Honda Odyssey.

A: the book says between 38 and 44 depending on outside temperature and humidity. The coldest that the air conditioning evaporator that the incoming air passes over can get is 33 degrees. That's because if it were 32 degrees the humidity in the air would freeze on the evaporator and cause it to ice over. Then no air could go through the evaporator and the system wouldn't work. As a rule of thumb the temperature of the air rises about 5 degrees as it passes through the ducts to the outlet. That would put the maximum low temperature at the center outlet grille about 37-38. You'll probably find that the outlet temperature will be lower as you drive down the road than when your sitting at idle. Also, you may find the outlet temperature is lower in "Normal" mode than in MAX with the recirculated air. hope that helps

Q: What is the best device for converting RCA audio to my car's CD changer?
2002 Honda Odyssey EX I've found the one here 2002 Honda Odyssey EX found this one only http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cW2gEgRnoTV/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=50900&I=581DFHON It IS NOT an aftermarket CD player. I think the only port it has on it is a CD changer port, I don't actually have a CD changer.

A: I just went through this.... Do you have a factory stereo or aftermarket? Check on the back of the stereo, there might be a port already there. I need to know model of stereo and change though to really help, could be lots of different options depending on what you have. Dont bother with any FM modulators, they suck...

Q: How do i fix my Radio code?
It is a 2002 Honda Odyssey "Code Err 2"...

A: Call the selling dealer and get it or remove the radio it is printed on the back. If a Honda products battery is disconnected the security system resets. It may also be written in the info of your owners manual packet.

Q: If you pay $115 for a car battery and you are told it is an exclusive AAA Member Discounted price.True or not?
I have a Honda Odyssey 2002. My car would not start so I called AAA. The guy came and said I needed a new battery. He put it a new one which cost me $115 (AAA Member Discounted Superior Quality Battery 24F36 with 36 months Free Replacement). Now, I'm told a battery for my type of car costs $50 to $75. Did I make a good decision by accepting that offer? Can $115 be considered a discounted exclusive AAA Member price?

A: It's the price we pay for convienience Sweetheart. Happy V-Day.

Q: Could overfilled transmission fluid cause transmission sliping?
I bought a used 2002 Honda Odyssey (129000KM)4 month ago, after 1000KM driving I found the transmission sliping at third gear. I took it to Honda dealership for a check, and was told it was because of the overfilled transmission fluid. It that true? I know there was a recall on the transmission for some 2002 odyssey, but Honda Canada told me that my van was not on the recall list even I got the same problem. Any idear about that? any information will be appreciated.

A: Yes it is possible. With the transmissions today using both pressures and electronics an overfilled transmission could send mixed signals to the TCM. I don't know a lot about Honda's setup but I think it would have to be overfilled by about a quart or more before you would notice the slip.

Q: Gave my husband's car a jump start.....?
.....now my battery is dead. Did we do it wrong? We attached all the cables first. Then I started my car (2002 Honda Odyssey).....it sputtered. Did the cars need to be running first?

A: You should have left your car running then attached the cables.

Q: Shift level indicator "D" does lights up?
I have a 2002 Honda Odyssey, when I shift down to "D", the indicator does light up, how to fix it?

A: if it lights up and it normally doesnt, if its flashing then that indicates some transmission problems, i dont have a honda odyssey but if there is more than one "D" than the others should light up to let you know what gear your in but if it the first D, D4? that shouldnt light up normally

Q: Anyone out there (with a family of 5) drive a Honda Fit?
We currently have an Odyssey but the gas mileage is killing us. We could probably sell the Odyssey (2002) for about $11,000 and buy a brand new Fit for $14,000. I think we could handle the decrease in size but wondered if anyone else out there in our situation has made the downsize and if so how did it work.

A: Yes we went from a nissan Armada to a honda civic we have 3 children and they hate it. But we save around 70 dollars a week in gas So it was worth it and the complaining is starting to pass. Not to mention the ins dropped around 90 dollars amonth.

Q: what kind of car should our family get?
Our family has our mom and dad, a boy, and three girls. Our car is a red 2002 honda odyssey with a dvd player and 7 seats. my mom would like to get a new car this spring, but doesn't want the new odyssey model, saying the headlights look like bug eyes. Anyways, she would like an eight seater that had plenty of cargo space and is availible with a dvd player. My dad doesn't want a dodge, saying they are boxy and small. We are willing to look at SUV's but arn't really into them, because of their size. To make a long story short, we are a family with an income between average and high, and can't decide what car we want. We ask any of you readers to give us some suggestions. We just can't decide!!!

A: If you don't want another Odyssey, then the next best choice is a Toyota Sienna, and they are available in an 8 passenger configuration (LE version). I think Toyota is the only one that offers an 8 seat minivan, but I'm not sure of that. Huge cargo space, even with all seats in place, and of course a DVD is optional (you can get them in any vehicle aftermarket even if it's not a factory option) To the guy that suggested a CRV - they have a family of six, the CRV seats five. Perhaps he meant the Pilot, which can seat 8 (as long as the third row people are small), but has nowhere near the cargo space with all of the seats in place that the Sienna would have.

Q: Is there anything I can do about my car loan company?
I live in the state of Georgia. I brought a used 2002 Honda Odyssey and because of credit issues from previous husband STILL on my report, I did not qualify for a bank loan so the car dealer ran me through a group called United Auto Credit. My payment is due on the 21st of each month. Since May of 2006 I have rounded my payments up by a few dollars and paid $400 a month. (reg pymt is $397.11) I have always mailed my payment between the 15th (paid day) and the 17th. United Auto is in the same state but about 50 miles from me. ONE time.....I mean ONE time....I was out of town at a continuing Ed class and told my husband to mail it. Check was done, in envelope; ready to go. He forgot and didn't mail it until the 22nd. I started getting harrassing calls 2-3 times a day until they got it. And then the next payment I sent they sent back and told me I had to pay by Western Union or money order for 12 months. That was back in October 2007. Is this legal? It would make sense if they were requiring it because I bounced a check but that's not the case. I have worked really hard to pay off those old debts but they are still on there but for the past 5 years...I pay everything on time. I just can't catch a break! What about refinancing? It's been two years since I got this loan, what are the chances a more reputable place would take me now?

A: Pay it as they request and shop around for a new loan. You're probably paying about 25% for the loan anyway. Try a credit union to refi.
