Q: Help with Honda Odyssey Entertainment system?
Hi everyone out there, I have just purchased an Imported 2004 Honda Odyssey that has an entertainment system that I'm battling with. It has a front LCD monitor that displays the following. GPS mode, DVD/TV/VCR mode, and CD/Sound Container mode. It also has a phone system that you can dial out from. The biggest problem is that most of the navigation is done using a joystick following the onscreen display which is in Japanese! When in GPS mode it displays maps of Japan & have been told it cannot be converted to NZ. The Disc insert plays only Region1 DVD's but no CD's, only displaying a title I can't read. The Sound Container mode I have worked out is a mode that allows the storage of music onto an internal hard drive, it has 90 discs already loaded but I do not know how to load discs on myself. The disc insert also accepts DVD Rom and has a PC Card input alongside it. It has a rear LCD screen with its own Disc input which only plays Region 1 discs and CD's. Any advice appreciated, Thanx
A: Contact a local Honda service department. They may not have the answers, but should be able to provide a phone number for someone who does.
Q: Changing the Air Filer on a 2004 Honday Odyssey?
How do you change the air filer on a 2004 Honda Odyssey? I bought the car used, and got the oil changed yesterday, and they suggested changing the air filer (they showed it to me, it is rather dirty), but I wasnt going to pay them $35 for the filer and who knows how much to install it. So I went to Walmart and bought a replacement filter for $15 and went home to change it. Now, the lid on this particular air box is screwed on. I got the front 2 screws off, but when I tried to open it, I noticed there are also 2 in the back- and those 2 screws are purposely placed way down in there, with other components pressed up against them, so that you cannot reach in there with a normal screwdriver, drill, or socket set. So- how do you get to these 2 screws to make the change? Is there a special tool to reach down in there that can be bought? I'm really annoyed how they have obviously gone to lengths to make it so that you'll pay the dealerr to do what is normally a very easy job...
A: Get a manual if you are going to do your own work. Otherwise, find a good mechanic. There are a llot of simple things that you can screw up on a car if you don't know what you are doing, and the results will be very expensive.
There is such a thing as "economy at any cost."
Q: Do the 2nd row seats come out of a Honda Odyssey to make the back totally flat- for models 2004-current?
A: What is Butwhatdolno talking about??? The second row DOES come out in a Odyssey! The reason I know is that I take them out EVERYDAY! I'm a Honda Sales Consultant and to be Honda Ceritfied you have to know EVERYTHING about EVERY vehiclel. Where did you get your sources there Einstein?
Anyway, yes the 2nd row seats to come out. You must first release the and "tumble" them forward and then with a firm jerk up and back, the seat will come right out.
Q: '04 Honda Odyssey LX question?
My husband and I recently bought a 2004 Honda Odyssy LX for 13,400 with 88,000 km on it. We thought it was a good deal and needed to upgrade from our Honda Civic because we have 3 children (3 year old and twin boys 1 month) so we needed 3 carseats in the car and well the Civic wasn't cutting it.
Anything that I should watch out for good or bad? Also do you think that we got a good deal?
A: Honda is a great car. I don't think you need to watch out for anything except for having it a long time. That is a good deal. if you were unsure about it go to www.kbb.com
Q: Honda Odyssey Auto Door Not Locking?
My 2004 Odyssey has a slight problem. I bought it brand new in 2004 and it has worked fine ever since. Recently, every time I lock it remotely, pressing "lock" twice, it doesn't "beep". Now I figured that the driver side automatic sliding door is not fully locking. When you lock the car, the lock slider/switch thing moves about an 1/8th of an inch. After all the other doors are fully locked, this door isn't and can still be opened. I am mostly concerned about the safety of leaving my car parked with one door unlocked. Any advice from experienced people? Or a pinout diagram of the pins? Thanks.
A: U don't need to pin out anything.... With the lock know moving slightly but not fully it tells me that the door lock actuator for that door is bad u need to either replace it your self or have a dealer replace it... That is why u are not getting your beep ne more I have seen these door lock actuators go bad a bunch hope it helps
Q: Is it safe to have 3 different brand of tires on the same car?
My dad owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey mini-van and it has three different brands of tires on it.
They are officially all the same specs (P225/60R16 M+ S), but the two front are different from each of the left and right rear tires, in terms of brand and maximum recommended inflation pressure (front two 35 psi; back two 40 psi).
Is this a safe situation, or should one always use four matched tires on the same car / mini-van?
Actual tires are:
- front left and right: BF Goodrich Revelation 97S
- rear left: Bridgestone Weatherforce Plus 40 97S
- rear right: Bridgestone Potenza RE92 98T
Are these tires any good?
And what would other recommend as a quality set of four tires (safety and durability over performance) for this mini-van?
And what is a reasonable amount to have a matched set of four tires purchased and installed?
Most of his driving is just around town, but he does occasional highway driving, where he tends to drive around 65 mph when the speed limit there allows it.
A: "NO!!!!! Okay, there is nothing wrong, just do your own way get with it , But......, before you get with your life on the high way, cause' you know people are all pissed, just remember this 10, I didn't said any thing yet it's just fri..kin 10.. !!!"

Q: Can a Targus AC power adapter run an Xbox 360 with 12 volts?
My mom just got a 2004 Honda Odyssey, and it has a 12V accessory outlet, and a DVD Entertainment Center, of course. I have a 360 and I've always wanted to be able to play it somewhere other than my house. I don't know, it would be cool if someone could get around to answering.
A: no it wouldnt be able to power it because if u ever looked at the power brick for the 360 the new ones say 175w on it and if u have ever watched shows like imp my ride or trick my truck they have add to add more power to the car so the person can play it in the car so now u cant sry
Q: Need your advice and opinion, Dodge Grand Caravan or Honda Odyssey? Read on......?
We are in the market for a minivan. We are looking to spend about $7500-$9000. For this money we can get a Grand Caravan from 2001-2004 with low miles for the year it is or we can also get a Honda Oddysey from 1999-2001 with a little bit higher miles for the year it is. I've heard that the odysey is far better quality inside and out and a better buy eventhough it might be a little older and have more miles. All opinions and advice is greatly appreciated.
A: The new Odyssy is pretty good, but the older one is not considered very reliable.

I like the Grand Caravan myself, my in laws have a 97 and it has been good for a long time until this year when the AC broke.
Anyway, you need to take your car to a good mechanich and check everything before you buy one., and then a good maintenance schedule.
Q: How can you disable the alarm on a 2004 Honda Odyssey?
The security system recently seemed to change on our 2004 Honda Odyssey. It now automatically locks the doors after exiting the van. It originally did not do this and did not "chirp" when being locked. Any ideas on how to go back to the quiet version?
A: take it to an alarm expert. or if if your up for the job try disconnecting the plugs that go to the alarm converter box under the hood, near the battery.
I recommend taking it to a pro.
Q: Does anybody have a minivan with automatic doors?
I have a Honda odyssey 2004 and lately I have been having problems with the back doors sliding. Sometimes when I try to close the doors with the remote like I always do, one of the back doors will not slide on its own. Do you know why that maybe happening? I thought maybe when I took it to get an oil change at sears that they mistreated the car. It wasn't doing that before then. Yea I try to close it with the remote and it gets stuck, and then it doesn't close unless I try a couple of times or pushing it manually. Its annoy because if you close the door manually then you can't lock it with the remote. Any thoughts on why its doing that?
A: There is a center door roller that slides along the horizontal track that is half-way between the roof and the floor. You need to make sure that track is clean and lubricated. Typically on the Odyssey the track gets an accumulation of dirt and grit over time and the center roller will get hung up on it. So the first thing to do is to have the track cleaned and lubricated. If you don't then you'll cause the roller to wear or break (its possible that this has happened already)
the second common cause is that the door that is out of alignment. Those doors can be aligned but its no easy thing to do. Its not unusual for the door to go out of alignment from continual opening and closing.
the earlier models had problems with the contact switches on the door and the door post. I think the problems were addressed by 2004, but you might want to have the contacts on the door and the door jamb cleaned with electrical contact cleaner. Bad contacts usually stop the door from latching automatically.
Get the center track cleaned and lubricated and go from there
hope that helps
Q: Honda Odyssey Minivans?
Hi,
My husband and I are considering the purchase of a Honda Odessey van. We need something reliable, since we have had nothing but car trouble in the past. He wants a new one, I want to save the money and buy a used one. Please let me know what year you have or someone you know has and if it has held up/been worth the money. Is it worth it to buy new one for the new features or are the used models just as reliable? I think I have heard complaints about the 2004 models but am not sure. Also, what about gas mileage?? Please inform us so we can get some real answers from people with experience in ownership of this vehicle. THANKS!
A: Used Odyssey's have known problems with the transmissions. I do believe 2nd gear tends to go due to lubrication issues. Overall reliability in Consumer Reports has dropped to average for the new models. A redesign is likely on the horizon as well.
The Toyota Sienna has been the most reliable, and is probably the 2nd best minivan overall (Honda still being the consensus best). The new Sienna's got a nice power upgrade, and will still get in the low 20's mileage wise.
I would save my money and get a used one. Maybe pay a little more for a certified used vehicle. I would also take a look at the Toyota Highlander. Not a minivan, but does just about everything the minivan does. Of course you will be lucky to average 19mpg in it, and the backseat is useless for an adult. They are exceedingly reliable though.
Q: Change power steering fluid at 30k?
I just took my 2004 Honda Odyssey in (to Honda Dealer) for the 30k maintenance according to my manual. I had oil filter changed, brake fluid flush, tranny flush and air filter replaced.
Well now they say my power steering is dirty and needs to be replaced for $120. My manual says it shouldn't need to be replaced. So who do I believe? How do I check myself? Can I do it myself? Help!
Thanks!
A: you should never need to get your power steering fluid flushed unless you or someone else contaminates it. I own 3 Pennzoil 10 Minutes and have had many salesman try to sell me on doing flushes and I Will not buy in. I told them to bring me one and only one owners manual that recommended this service and I would think about it. Well that was a number of years ago and to this day I have not found one single manual that recommends this service. I believe it is along the same line as Nitrogen. Shops are running out of ways to make money because of the lack of maintenance needed on newer cars so they create these services to make money. Nitrogen and steering flushes are the 2 biggest scams out there. I hope you don't waste your money. I have 24 years of experience working on cars and have owned the 3 shops for 19+ years.
Q: figuring my gas cost to drive from FL TO ME?
I DRIVE A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE 1600.
A: one way or round trip?
one way approx. 150-200
Q: Is the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban a vehicle worth $40,000?
We want to buy a little bit bigger family vehicle and really wonder if the Suburban is worth the 40k+ sticker price. We have 4 kids and are on the road every weekend with soccer, swimming or tae kwon do tournaments. So having the extra room would be desirable but want to have a good vehicle.
We currently have a 2004 Honda Odyssey and we are a little disappointed in the vehicle. It is extremely loud on the highway and the engine has developed a leak (which Honda already fixed once!).
At any rate, the real question is what makes the Suburban worth 40k and is it really worth it?
Just a note... the only comparable non-GM vehicle is the Expedition EL (extra-long). It has a base price of about the same as the Suburban (36k) and comes comparably equipped...
Used is an option and will save me $$$ but most of the used large SUVs have over 40k miles on it and are still in the high 20s to low 30s.
So do you buy the NEW $40k vehicle or $28k used with 40k miles on it?
A: I have had very good luck buying the used version 2 - 3 years old with 40K on them and then trading at around 100K. I have run both brands and I prefer the Suburban over the mainly because I am 6' 4" 230# and the sub is more comfortable to me.
Q: Engine Steam, Low A/C air, repair cost?
I discover when I drive within a 15 minute distance, the engine on my 2004 Honda Odyssey gets hot/warm really fast and some pressure or steam can be felt from the engine outside. In addition, the A/C is also having low air pressure.
Can someone please help?
If I go to a car repair place, how much does it cost for the car repairman to find out what is the problem before I fix get the problem fix, if any?
A: That guy was rude.
Just take it to the car dealer and get it fix. It should not be a serious problem. But, you can is only a few years old, it can be easily fix.
