Q: 2008 Honda Odyssey depreciation rate?
I was looking at buying an older Honda, and saw that they seem to hold their value for quite some time... This got me thinking... If I shelled out like, 20k for a 2008 Honda Odyssey, how much do you think it would lose in value over the course of 2-3 years? Assuming low usage, so only adding about 40-60,000 miles to it, and keeping it in good shape...
I was just thinking, that if I am going to lose 2,000 of its value on a 2004 model, and will lose 2,000 of the value of a 2008 in the same time frame... I might as well just get the 2008.
The extra money would sit in the bank if not, so let me know what you think from a purely investment standpoint.
A: Over a period of 2-3 years, you're going to lose around 5,000-7,000 off the car.
The current rate of depreciation, is about 10-15% of value, per year. Let's assume an average of 13%.
First year, it'll go from 20k to $17.4
Second year: 17.5 down to $15.1
Third year: 15.1 down to $13,000.
By the time you're done, you've lost about 35% of the vehicle's value. Just in three years.
Keep in mind, a 1999 Odyssey was around 22,000, and is now valued at $4,000, ten years later. Less than 20% of it's original value.
Still sound like a good "investment"?
The bottom line, is that it would be astronomically stupid to buy a new car right now.

A: you can calculate out what the comparative costs are. consider
1) the 2008 has a higher acquisition cost: approximately 30k for a 2008 EX versus approxiamtely 14k for a 2004 model. That's a $16,000 difference up front that you are investing
2) if financed, the difference between the two is $574 per month on 60 months @ 6.65% for the 2008 versus $269 per month for the same term and at the same rate for the 2004
3) depreciation will be at about $0.20 per mile regardless of the year so if you are driving the vehicle for 40,000 miles your depreciation will be $800 to $1200 for the 60,000 miles
the interest of putting the money in the bank won't overcome the interest you pay on either the loan or in lost interest in the difference in purchase price if you pay cash.
you can look at any of the used car sites such as kelly blue book http://kbb.com and do comparisons for each of the years to see how much in value the Odyssey loses on average year over year to project what the decrease in the recover value is when you go to sell it a few years from now.
based on the comparison of the 2004 to the 2008 it comes out to about $4000 per year lost but keep in mind the vehicle changed substantially in 2006 and that there have been increases in base prices between those years so you would have to go by the % of the original price over time.
for me, it looks like the 2004 would be a much better deal
hope that helps
Q: HELP!! How can I remove a minor clear coat scratch on a handle of a sliding door on a 2008 Honda Odyssey?!?
I have tried using the nufinish once a year car polish, and other scratch removers. nothing worked. I am thinking about using a turtle wax polishing compound is this the best solution?
The clear coat scratch is on the door handle right passenger side sliding door handle itself. It lost its shine.
The color of the 2008 Honda Odyssey is Slate Green Metalic.

I need more answers!!!!
A: Try some SYSTEM ONE X3 Polish on a applicator or microfiber towel and work it in by hand. You may need to hit it 3 or 4 times. Just keep rubbing the polish over the scratches with medium pressure until the polish disappears, then check your work and reapply again if needed.

A: An average car loses 50% of it's value in 3 years, with most of the loss in the first year, less in the second, and even less in the third. This is, of course, a general rule of thumb. Honda's depreciate at better-than-average rates, Chevys and Chryslers depreciate at worse-than-average rates.
So if you buy a 2008 model worth $20K, it'll be worth about $10 in 3 years -- a loss of $10K. If you buy a 2004 model for $10K (assuming that's the fair market value), it'll be worth about $5K in three years -- a loss of $5K.
Depreciation percentages for brand new cars are based on sticker price (MSRP), not what you actually pay. Used car percentages are based on fair market value, not what you actually pay. In other words, if you overpay for your car, you'll experience a higher dollar loss than someone who paid a fair market value, or less.
For example, if we assume new cars depreciate 20% (off MSRP) the minute you drive it off the lot, but you managed to get rebates and discounts to knock off 10% of MSRP, your car only depreciates 10% (of MSRP) based on the price you actually paid. And after 3 years, you've only lost about 40% (of what you paid) although that's 50% of sticker price.
Q: HONDA ODYSSEY owners, how much did you pay for your mini-van?
Did you buy an Odyssey?
Anyone who just bought a Honda Odyssey, please share your pricing. I am planning to buy a 2008 Odyssey very soon and like to know a good price for it.
- EX model
- EX-L model
- EX-L with Dvd model
THANK YOU SO MUCH...!!!
I already shop around so I do not rely on their so called "MSRP" prices. It doesn't mean much to me.
I'm looking for the REAL deals from owners.
DPower: Did your staff buy the EX-L with DVD? was that the price out of the door?
Thanks
My current offers are:
EX = 23,615
EX-L = 26,465
EX-L with DVD = 27,870
PRE-tax and etc.
What do you think of these quotes?
A: One of our researh associates recently purchased an Odyssey for his family. He and his wife have 3 children, all under age 11. He said he paid $29,000 for an ’08 EX-L a little over two months ago.He lives in the Southeast part of the U.S. Pricing may vary in different parts of the country. The Odyssey got a major redesign for 2008 and has a host of improvements. I don't believe his model included the DVD player. For pricing and insurance information, reviews, articles, videos, photos of the Odyssey and other vehicles as well as quality ratings, please visit JDPower.com. Hope this helps.
Q: Honda Odyssey with Variable Cylinder Management?
does the 2007 odyssey have it or only the 2008 and if the 2007 does is the 2008 one updated?
A: I own a 2007 Odyssey EX-L. The Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) comes standard on the EX, EX-L, and touring. The 2007 cuts the cylinders down to 3, when driving at a constant speed. The 2008 VCM is going to be standard on EX, EX-L, and Touring. The major difference is that it will cut the engine cylinders to 3 or 4, producing better gas mileage than the '07. Both 2007 & 2008 get good gas mileage, but the less aggressive you drive the more MPG.
Q: Is it normal for rain water to seep through a sunroof when it is closed?
I have a 2008 honda odyssey. I am trying to find out if it is normal for rain water to seep (go through) the sun roof when it is closed.
A: Yes it is. All sunroofs are made to leak. The only thing is if it's getting inside the car. Sunroofs all have a drain underneath them so any water that gets under simply drains away, but if there's a blockage of any sort in this drain, it will enter the interior of the car, that's not normal.
Q: honda cars?
does the 2008 honda odyssey have the same engine as the 2008 honda accord
A: yea it does its a 3.5l v6 sohc engine

Q: any auto insiders that can tell me what changes I might expect with 2010 Honda Odyssey?
I will probably buy 2007 or 2008 used, but want to know what 2010 will bring
A: faster and more technologically advanced
(i only answered this cos I was chasing a spammers replys)

Q: Odyssey Vs Sienna which one is better?
which one is better Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna? Please provide your personal experiences with both the cars. Also What are pros and cons in buying 2007 Vs 2008 at this time of the year?
A: Odyssey....
They options available are outstanding and blow you out of the water. The GPS system is superb, the factory installed DVD players and screens are heaven sent, and if you buy it new from Honda, they throw in a lot of extras with every service visit...
Q: Where is the best place to put two car seats in a minvan?
Car Seat Description:
-First is Rear Facing Infant Car seat/carrier that snaps in and out of a pre-installed base. Looks like this: http://tiny.cc/rDx02
-Second is a Front Facing Convertible Todler Car Seat that is not easly removed.
Car Description:
-2008 Honda Odyssey
2nd Row--Two captains chairs and one removable small seat that is in the middle
3rd Row-Bench Seat
Doors--Doors slide on both sides to allow easy access to 2nd row
-To get to the third row seat, you have to fold down the second row seat closest to the door.
Typically I will just have myself and the kids in the car, so I want things to be as easy as possible for loading and unloading the kids. However, there will also be times where I will need to room for 2 other adult passengers. (Both with bad knees who may have problems climbing over seats to get to the third row.)
A: I have a Ford Windstar minivan with two captain chairs and a 3rd row bench. I have 2 toddler carseats installed in each captain chairs. My 11 yr old sits on the 3rd row bench.
Q: 2008 Chrysler Town and Country?
It's a sad day for me but I am entering the world of mini vans and was wondering what people thought of the 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. I am also looking at the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna...But the T&C has a lot of options at a lower price point..wondering if it's an ok car or if I should just spend my money on something I know will last. Any thoughts?
A: just spend ur money on what u know will last because it is a good idea and the other two look a lo better anyway.
Q: Hurricane Season 2008 for pets?
I need big tips on this terrifing season, i don't want none of my family to die! All my family know what to do and know were to go, but my dog! I have a Honda Odyssey Van. I can put the back chairs down, but thats for the equipment we have to use! I don't know were to put my dog! He is a Lab, a big dog! I also can put him in the back of the van to. but not without a cage and or a shelter he could be locked in. Whats the best cage i can buy him?
A: I've lived in Florida since 1975 and I was actually in the middle of Hurricane Wilma. I've never left my house to go to a Shelter because of the dog issue., but fortunately, we've managed quite well except for losing electricity for 2 weeks.
I don't know where in Florida you live, but there is a place in West Place Beach where you are allowed to take your dog. The only problem is that you have to pay a non-refundable $100 deposit at the beginning of hurricane season. You and your family are placed in one area of the shelter and your dog is kenneled in anothwer, which I why I've never gone. Besides that, it's almost an hour drive from where I live.
It's your choice as to whether you decide to weather any storms. I always stayed nd have been lucky, but my house also has built in accordion hurricane shutters which I I only have to pull shut and lock.
Good luck in whatever you decide. Hopefully, we won't have anything bad this year again.
PS - I know that this doesn't really answer your question , but I wish you the best in whatever choice you decide. Stay safe.
EDIT TO ADD:
I don't know if you're planning on driving to a motel in case of a hurricane, but I do know that La Quinta Motels allow dogs and don't charge anything extra.
Q: Why won't Honda Corp take responsibilty and fix consumers A/C?
My husband and I purchased a brand new Odyssey Van in June 2006. Absolutely love the van. We have had no problems until we realized our air conditioner wasn’t working recently in May 2008. Our van only has 24,000 miles on it. I called Fairfield Performance Honda service and was told if it is a rock that damaged the condenser it is not covered. I said, a rock and she replied; yes rocks can damage the condenser. My husband and I never have heard such thing. Without Honda even looking at my van they already knew exactly what was wrong. So that day I got a phone call from service and sure enough they said a rock has damaged your condenser and it would not be covered because that is consider road debris and it will cost you 800.00. The service person said they see this every week and then he said I mean once a month so I was curious and got on the internet to see if anybody else have had the same problem and sure enough hundreds complaints with the same problem. I contacted Honda America Corp and they said sorry it is not covered because it is road debris damage. It’s not my fault and thousands of other consumers fault that they poorly designed the Honda Odysseys and Honda Accords. I noticed on the new 2008 Vans and cars they have a protection on the front now. But that’s not fair for all the people who have purchased a van or car 2007 or earlier. I think that they should have a recall on this matter and fix the problem. I didn’t pay $30,000.00 for a van to have this problem. They need to put some kind of protection on the van so it doesn’t happen again. I just want to let all other consumers beware of this so they don’t make the same mistake we did. I am contacting the Consumer report, Better Business Bureau all news media and papers until this problem is taking care of. I already have one local TV station doing the story. If we would have known this problem before we wouldn’t have purchased it. I think Honda is treating their customers very poorly on this matter and should definitely have a recall. Thank you for listening to my complaint and hopefully we will get this solved.
A: It would cost Honda millions to fix this issue. I would guess they don't consider it a safety hazard, so they feel it is of no need to repair it.
The condenser is $180 for the OEM fit after market version. I doubt, and I'm sorry to say this, is that you'll never get them to fix it. It would probably be cheaper to take it to somewhere other than the Honda dealer. My friend's Volvo got its condenser ruined by a stone too, it costed $400 to replace it with labour included.
Unfortunately, being that it is right in front of the rad, it's in a really good spot to get damaged, but they should have put a splash cover up to protect it.
I really hope this all works out for you, and I wish you the best of luck.
Also, when you do get it repaired, if I were you, I'd try and find a cover off of a newer van that was in a wreck, or look for them in a part catalogue, because it will most likely keep on happening.
Just a side note to the people who replied before me:
I like Honda, and Toyota and all, but seriously, stop with the domestic car bashing, it isn't the 90's or early 00's any more people... Ford and GM make really good quality cars now. And don't reply with "They're junk!" to me unless you're a mechanic, or you have a lot of experience in these matters, and by the way, just because your mom owns one doesn't qualify you to be rating the quality of cars.
On a side note, I have worked on a lot of A/C systems, and a lot of cars for that matter, and I've always found the A/C systems on domestic cars to be far superior to those of imports and Japanese makes.
Q: I'm trying to locate an aftermarket product for a special-needs driver who requires a specal gear shift?
She is focused upon acquiring a Honda Odyssey but she has trouble with the gear shift. She wants an automatic transmission, but due to her physical condition, she has much difficulty pressing the thumb switch in order to change gears when she needs to.
The problem is that she has very little thumb strength and Toyota doesn't know of any product on the market that can be used in place of the shift handle. Her fingers are strong enough to use a handle if the release were located under the handle grip - just not the thumb.
If you know of ANY sites or products it would be very helpful and she would appreciate it. She has her heart set on the 2008 Odyssey but knows that unless she can find a way to deal with the shift handle, she will have to look at other vehicles.
Thank you.
